EC’s East Parallel Closed for the Summer This summer, the east parallel of East Campus will be closed for renovations. Those renovations include the replacement of asbestos tiles and bathroom flooring, possible replacement of carpeting, and limited painting, said Director of Housing Karen A. Nilsson. Tuition will increase by 4.05 percent for the 2004-2005 academic year, passing the $30,000 mark and bringing the yearly cost of an MIT education to $42,230, according to a press release from the MIT News Office. Additionally, MIT will increase the amount of undergraduate financial aid. Many Freshmen Become First-Year Sophomores In the years previous to 2003, about 15-18 students declared sophomore standing each year. Last year, the first year in which second semester freshmen were on grades, 121 freshmen accepted sophomore standing.
