String Tunnel, located next to the Building 18 bridge, was installed by Yuna Kim G, Kelly E. Shaw G, and Travis A. Williams G for the MIT150 FAST Arts Festival. String Tunnel directs visitors to the Infinite Corridor.



Wind Screen, installed by Professor of Architecture J. Meejin Yoon for the MIT150 FAST Arts Festival, is on display in the archway below the Green Building. Each subunit is a wind turbine and generates all the energy it needs to light up as it spins. As the wind blows harder, the turbines spin faster and light up more brightly.



The 75-year-old Professor Lewin takes 10 full swings on a pendulum to demonstrate that adding mass will not change its frequency.



Lewin demonstrates Rayleigh scattering by showing that cigarette smoke scatters blue light.



Lewin lights the third of four cigarettes he needs to generate enough small particles to demonstrate Rayleigh scattering.



Lewin emotionally announces that this lecture is his last.

On Sunday, Tropical Storm Irene’s high winds tore a tree branch on the median of Memorial Drive outside of McCormick Hall. Boston recorded gusts as high as 63 mph as Irene made her way across New England.
