Chancellor Philip L. Clay PhD ’75 presents a $2,500 prize to Aquaport at the awards ceremony for the 2009 MIT IDEAS Competition on Monday evening in 32-123. The Aquaport team developed an affordable water transportation device for women in rural Ghana.



Nathaniel S. Fox ’12 gives his stand-up comedy routine as part of a competition arranged by the MIT Stand-Up Comedy Club on Wednesday evening in Lobdell. The top eight comedians voted by the audience will represent MIT as a team to compete against other colleges in the Rooftop College Comedy Competition. The top four teams will then head to the national finals at the Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival on June 10–13.

Ben Huh, CEO of Pet Holding, Inc., talks about the emergence of internet memes like “lolcats” and “Rickrolling” during a talk sponsored by the MIT Sloan Innovation club on Thursday in E51. He explained how he has created a successful business of meme websites (which include icanhascheezburger.com). Huh will also be speaking at the second annual ROFLcon, a conference on internet culture at MIT this weekend.



Shigehisa Kuriyama, professor of cultural history at the Harvard Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations, speaks on the “Divergence of Greek Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine through the lens of media” during MIT Traditional Medicine Society’s annual Big Event in Lobdell on Friday. Members of the MIT Department of Biological Engineering and Harvard Medical School joined Kuriyama afterwards for a panel discussion on the event’s theme, “East meets West: Divergence and Reunion of Eastern and Western Medicine.”
