President Barack Obama announced on Thursday that he intends to nominate Subra Suresh ScD ’81, Dean of MIT’s School of Engineering, to be the next director of the National Science Foundation. If confirmed by the Senate, Dean Suresh will serve as director for the next six years.

Christine Ortiz, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, was recently appointed the new Dean of Graduate Education. She will assume her new position on August 1.

Gushing water from a burst pipe flooded the parking lot between buildings 3, 5, and 7.
