Another Banking Option

Your survey of local banks overlooked a bank which I think people new to the area may want to consider. Wainwright Bank and Trust Company now has branches in Kendall Square, Central Square, Harvard Square, Davis Square, Downtown Crossing, and four other locations. Wainwright offers a checking account with no minimum balance and no monthly fees as well as a value account whose fees are waved with direct deposit of a paycheck (or other automatic deposit). Wainwright ATM cards are accepted without fees at any ATM machine that is part of the SUM network (which includes Cambridge Trust, MITFCU, and many other smaller banks). And for what it’s worth, they bill themselves as a ‘socially conscious community bank.’ Check them out on the web at http://www.wainwrightbank.com/.

(Oh, and for the record, I’m not affiliated in any way -- just a happy customer who went through two lousy evil-corporate-monster-sized-we’ll-ignore-you-unless-you-have-$30,000-or-more banks before being told about Wainwright.)
