ViewpointQuestion: What is your reaction to the Dartmouth Zeta Psi incident and its repercussions?
My impression was that it was all made up, that the newsletters were internal and not supposed to be released outside of the fraternity. If those things are true, then it will be neither the first nor the last case of an institution cracking down unfairly on fraternities for views and opinions that they’ve expressed.

I would have to agree with Dartmouth’s decision to close ZP. I think that it is a bit extreme, but that if you just slap them on the hand, no one will really believe that Dartmouth is serious about saying that the newsletter is unacceptable. It’s outrageous that such a newsletter was circulated through the house, and though it was meant to be funny, the fraternities should realize that this cannot be an acceptable amusement.

I think it’s a supreme display of stupidity on everyone’s part. The brothers were stupid to write it, and the administration was stupid to jump the gun and kick everyone out. If a girl has sex with a guy in a fraternity, it is a guarantee that he will talk about it with the rest of the guys. It’s what they do. Publishing a newsletter about it was really stupid and chauvinistic.
