Weather: Farewell to Summer

Farewell to Summer

By Marek Zebrowski
Staff Meteorologist

A small low pressure system will intensify and quickly move along an approaching cold front on Friday, causing scattered showers and possibly an isolated rumble of thunder, especially to our west. As this system sails into southern Quebec, the cold front will push through our area before dawn on Saturday. However, no immediate clearing in its wake shall take place: Low-level leftover moisture and colder, unstable air aloft indicate a cloudy and cooler start to our fall season, which begins this Saturday. High pressure centered over western Pennsylvania should give us a fair and crisp Sunday; another storm developing off the Carolina capes will threaten us with rain, reaching the easternmost sections of our state early next week.

Today: Cloudy and mild with showers developing. High 76F (25C) with fresh southerly breezes

Tonight: Showers and some steadier rain, gradually tapering after midnight. Low near 60F (15C)

Saturday: Mostly cloudy with a threat of a stray shower early, then breaks in the overcast sky developing throughout the afternoon. Morning highs in the low to mid 60s (16-18C) will fall into the high 50s (13-15C) before dark. Moderate northwesterly winds.

Saturday Night: Fair and cooler, low near 46F (8C)

Sunday: Partly to mostly sunny with highs in the low 60s (16-18C) and lows in mid to upper 40s (6-9C).
