October Mix

Thanks to a high pressure system cresting over New England the first morning of October will be quite frosty in all but immediate coastal and southeastern Massachusetts locations and bring an end to the growing season.

Weather systems are on the move however, and the crisp Friday of sunny skies and brilliant autumnal foliage will give way to a dulller and warmer Saturday; this thanks to a southwesterly flow ahead of the cold front, which will be responsible for the coldest weekend of the season in the Great Lakes region.

This front, attached to a slower-moving upper air cyclone is forecast to traverse the local area by afternoon Sunday, in time for a dramatic sunset and a return of fair and slightly chilly weather for Monday and Tuesday.

Today: Mostly sunny and warming up after a very cold morning. Afternoon high temperature of 62F (16C) with diminishing northwesterly winds that will turn to southeast late in the day

Tonight: Mostly clear and chilly with a low of 50F (10C) and winds turning to southwest by daybreak

Saturday: Sunny start with increasing cloudiness throughout the day. Breezy with a mild high of 68F (20C). Chance of showers moving from west to east late in the afternoon and into the evening. Southwetsrely winds will continue at 15-20 mph (24-30 kmh)

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy with showers likely. Windy and mild with a low of 54F (12C)
