On Sunday morning, hackers placed a sword stuck in an anvil on one of the pedestals in Lobby 7. The hack, presumably to welcome the new chancellor, has a plaque inscribed “Who So Pulleth Out This Sword of this Stone and Anvil is the Rightwise Born Chancellor of The Institvte,” a reference to the novel and movie The Sword in the Stone. The sword is adorned with a number of MIT references: “Massachvsetts Institvte of Technology” and “MDCCCLXI,” the year the Institute was founded, are engraved on the blade; the bolt heads on the hilt spell out “X + I” to represent 2011; and the MIT seal is on the handle of the sword.
