To the Editor:
I am struggling to find the words to express my extreme disappointment in The Tech for the October 24 article “Sex and the Safe Ride.” Simply put, your decision to print step-by-step instructions on how to perform oral sex falls outside of the realm of journalism and squarely into pornography. It was offensive and childish. The Tech represents the MIT community and as such it bears the responsibility to ensure that articles submitted for publication meet minimum standards for newsworthiness, and, dare I say it, good taste. That was not the case here. You ignored your responsibilities and chose instead to serve the prurient and childish interests of seeing how much one can get away with in the campus paper.
I sincerely hope that The Tech comes to realize that after the giggles die down, the only legacy of publishing articles of this ilk is to insult those of us who care for MIT and to undermine the credibility of the paper and MIT.
