The men's rugby football club went on their first road trip of the regular season to Portsmouth, NH and returned home victorious after a 150 blanking of the Seacoast Rugby Football Club. With their second shutout in a row, MIT's opponents remain scoreless in the month of October.
Early in the game, it was apparent that MIT was the physically dominant team as they quickly got inside Seacoast's 20-yard line. However, once inside, MIT committed some simple mistakes which resulted in a scoreless first twenty minutes. The Engineers dominance in the forwards was rewarded with a score by Fernando Vargas G who also made the conversion. A made penalty kick by Vargas resulted in the 100 halftime score.
MIT continued playing hard in the second half and quickly scored on a designed play by team president Todd Nightengale '01. MIT held off some furious Seacoast runs late to preserve the shutout.
The MIT Men's B-team played their best game in years, producing a dominating 287 victory. The next game is at home Saturday versus the Beacon Hill Dinosaurs.
