In their first conference game of the season last Saturday, the field hockey team defeated Clark University 63. They avenged last years post-season loss to Clark while improving their season record to 43 overall.

Michelle Verticchio '02 started off the scoring six minutes into the game when she tipped in a pass from team co-captain Tracy Sadowski '99. Three minutes later Sadowski followed with a goal of her own on a corner play with Theresa Power '00 assisting. The third goal was scored by Laura Williams '00 with 13:30 to go in the half off a pass from Jen Stout '01. After MIT had dominated most of the first half of play Clark scored with one minute left and cut the lead to 31.

The Engineers continued their scoring surge with another goal just minutes into the second half. Williams scored her second goal off another pass from Stout. The lead was increased to 51 when Verticchio tipped in a pass from Stout. Just when the game seemed out of reach, Clark picked it up and scored two goals to get back into the game. With two minutes left in the game, the Engineers got a penalty corner and Power sealed the victory with a tremendous shot into the back of the cage.

Goalkeeper Jee Bang '01 had another excellent game with 13 saves on 15 shots. Co-captains Connie Sadowski '99 and Margie Tsai '99 each had two key defensive saves in the game.

MIT hosts two conference match-ups against Babson College and Springfield this week.
