By Paul Dill
team coach

The women's volleyball team finished off its regular season by beating both Amherst College and Worcester Polytechnic Institute last week, giving the Engineers their 11th win out of their last 13 matches.

On Halloween, MIT, which is ranked number eight in Division III inNew England, continued its trend of upsets by beating seventh-ranked Amherst 30 (155, 1513, 1511).

The victory was made even sweeter because Amherst had beaten the team earlier in the season. The win now puts MIT ahead of Amherst in the rankings.

Jill Eich '99 led the team in kills with Betsy Sailhamer '99 and Mayleen Ting '99 close behind. Also, the steady leadership and timely dumps of setter Stacey Dozono '97 were key in the match.

On Saturday, the Engineers finished off their season at home with an even more dominating display to defeat WPI 30 (159, 156, 1511). In this match, the entire team had a hand in the victory with strong play by a trio of freshmen - Alarice Huang '00, Nann Kroschnabel '00, and Rita Lin '00.

After a 35 start this season, the Engineers have been able to turn things around since Oct. 1 to improve their record to 165.

The team has developed some serious momentum going into the New England Women's Eight Conference Tournament this weekend.
