Winter Blues
By Gerard Roestaff meteorologist
While we escaped relatively lightly over the weekend in terms of precipitation, the wind and air temperature combined to give wind chill of 10° below zero (-23°C) on Monday - more reminiscent of a mid-winter arcitc blast than early December. Things look to improve slowly throughout the week as moderating westerly and then southerly winds slowly push the surface temperature back up above freezing. The coastal storm has been replaced by a stong high pressure ridge producing mostly clear skies which will in turn be supplanted towards week's end by a cyclone out of central Canada promising perhaps some precipitation.
Today: Mostly sunny, dry, winds biting then lessening in strength, and from the west. High 28°F (-2°C).
Tonight: Clear skies and strong cooling. Low 16°F (-9°C).
Wednesday: A few clouds. High 31°F (-1°C). Low 23°F (-5°C).
Thursday: Mostly sunny, then clouds, maybe snow. High 34°F (1°C). Low 29°F (-2°C).
