Gymnasts Julie Lyren '93 and Scott Lazerwith '95 each performed with great success at last weekend's USA Division II-III Nationals in Springfield, Mass. Lyren tied the MIT record in the floor exercise, scoring a 9.4 and finishing with an overall score of 35.65 out of a possible 40 points. Lazerwith competed only in the rings, but managed an 8.55, which was a personal best for him. Both competitors were named to the Division II-III Scholar-Athlete team.
The men's crews kept their unbeaten streak alive last weekend. The heavyweight varsity crew easily defeated Connecticut College, Williams, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute in a race on the Textile River in Lowell, Mass. The heavyweight freshmen kept their record perfect by defeating the same crews. The lightweight varsity also stayed unbeaten by knocking off the Coast Guard Academy on the Thames River in New London, Conn.
