Lacrosse Women Conquer BUBy Ana L. Rosado
The varsity women's lacrosse team improved their record to 6-3 with an impressive 21-13 win over Boston University on Tuesday.
The Engineers came on strong right from the beginning. Defensive efforts at both ends of the field frustrated BU's scoring attempts as MIT ran the score up to 10-0. Toward the end of the first half, BU seemed to awaken, coming back to score three quick goals. Halftime found the Engineers up 13-3.
At the start of the second half, the Engineers leaned back, seemingly comfortable in their lead. BU saw an opportunity and capitalized on it, scoring quickly and narrowing the lead. MIT regained its composure, however, not only stopping the onslaught of BU goals but scoring a few more of their own. MIT goalie Roopa Mehendale '92 had most of her 21 saves during the second half.
On the offensive end, Allison Marino '93 led the scoring with six goals, followed by Jenn Chow '95 with four. Ana L. Rosado '92 and Mary Beth Rhodes '94 each had three, followed by co-captain Susan Ward '92 with two, and Stefanie Spencer '93, Carla Oshiro '95, and Meera Saini '95 with one.
Defensively, co-captain Kimberly Williams '92 led the way with three interceptions, in addition to causing many BU turnovers.
MIT faces its last opponent, Harvard JV, today at 4 p.m. on the omniturf.
