assachusetts Ave. traffic lights are a great danger to pesdestrians

The traffic lights at the crosswalk in front of the main entrance to MIT currently malfunction in a very dangerous way. Sometimes the walk signal displays "WALK" while the traffic light remains green. I first saw this several weeks ago; it happened again last Friday at about 1 pm, and I notified the Campus Police. They said they had already called the city people in charge, twice. It happened again less than 10 minutes before I wrote this letter. I've noticed people starting to cross when the signal displays "WALK," without checking the lights, assuming that the cars will stop. Although I've not seen any accidents yet, I've seen some close calls.
