Despite victory, war was wrong

The button hangs heavily on my coat today. It seems silly to say that "war is not the answer" in the face of victory.

When I was 11 I went to my first concert -- Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden. It was a sold-out show. We had seats in the blue section -- blue like the sky, they were that high up.

All we could see was the bald spot on the top of his head. Does anyone know how many people Madison Square Garden seats? I imagine every seat filled with a dead Iraqi. In the front by the stage is one row of dead Americans. And Billy Joel is serenading them.

The Republican Party will sing this victory for a generation. They will hum it on election eves and chant it the next time they choose to schedule a concert of the dead. But it was never right, and I won't take that button off my coat.
