Bursar denounces cruel prank

I am writing to let you know about a "hack" which has occurred. Someone (unknown) has sent out letters to students, on photocopied Bursar's office letterhead, informing them that their loans have been cancelled and that "further documentation... will be forwarded upon request of attorney."

The Bursar's office has sent no such letters. They are fraudulent, and the Campus Police and Dean's Office are investigating. Students are very upset (some panic-stricken) about this. We have received about 500 telephone calls and visits in the last 24 hours. This is a very cruel hack, not funny at all. If students have received such letters they should ignore them.
