Larger rally crowd estimate

To the Editor:

Craig Jungwirth's article entitled "Police arrest nine in protest march," which appeared in the Apr. 5 issue of The Tech, reports Vladimir Escalante (not Esealante) as saying that 50 demonstrators protested on Wednesday, Apr. 3 against US interventionism in Central America, apartheid in South Africa, and Reagan's student aid cuts.

This figure is grossly inaccurate. Firstly, when I recently spoke with Mr. Escalante, he assured me that he had never been asked to estimate the number of people participating. Secondly, when I asked him for an estimate, he said 200, a figure I whole-heartedly agree with. The source of Mr. Jungwirth's datum remains unknown to me.

(Editor's note: Reports on the number of people who took part in the demonstration at Harvard range from 200 to 300. Approximately 50 people gathered at the Student Center steps. The Tech mistakenly attributed this number to Escalante.)
