MIT received 25 combined kills from senior Trinity P. Leonard and first-year Ada V. Taylor and 43 assists from senior Alyssa L. Rothman en route to a 3-1 victory over host Babson College in a NEWMAC women’s volleyball match at Babson College on Tuesday night.

In its first home matches of the 2012 season, the MIT women’s volleyball team defeated New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Smith College (25-17, 25-18, 25-11) and local foe Simmons College (25-15, 25-19, 25-12) on Saturday afternoon. These victories pushed MIT’s record to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in NEWMAC.

After a second place finish at the North Park University Tournament in Chicago last weekend, MIT pushed their winning streak to four matches with an impressive 3–0 win over Clark University in NEWMAC women’s volleyball action on Tuesday evening.

MIT Women’s Volleyball swept all four of its matches this past weekend to take the Regis Pride Invitational Championship. Kristine A. Bunker ’14 was named to the All-Tournament Team and Tatiana Berger ’14 was named the Tournament MVP.

The nationally-ranked No. 5 MIT Men’s Volleyball team won the Baruch College Invitational this past weekend with a 3-1 record. On Saturday, the Engineers defeated the No. 12 Bearcats (25-20, 25-20, 25-27, 25-21) but fell to Kean University (26-24, 22-25, 29-27, 25-20). The next day, MIT earned hard-fought victories over No. 15 Emmanuel College (25-17, 23-25, 25-18, 32-30) and No. 7 Stevens Institute of Technology (25-19, 26-24, 18-25, 11-25, 17-15).

Nationally-ranked No. 5 MIT defeated No. 9 Rivier College, 25-16, 25-19, 25-22, en route to winning the championship of the MIT Men’s Volleyball Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The Engineers also swept Emerson College (25-17, 25-22, 25-13), Stevenson University (25-22, 25-20, 25-13), and York College (N.Y.) (25-17, 25-23, 25-17) to capture their second consecutive title and their fifth overall in the eight-year history of the tournament. Kenneth M. Siebert ’14 was selected to the all-tournament team while David R. Thomas ’12 earned Tournament MVP honors for the second year in a row, becoming the first player to accomplish this feat.

The No. 9 ranked MIT Men’s Volleyball team has started the season with a bang, beating the reigning national champions and currently ranked No. 1 Nazareth College Golden Flyers on their own court.

In a hard-fought battle, No. 4 seeded MIT emerged with a 25-19, 18-25, 25-16, 25-22 victory over No. 5 WPI in a NEWMAC Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament quarterfinal match on Tuesday night. MIT improved to 23-10 on the season and for the second year in a row, it will face host and top seed Springfield College on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1:00 p.m. Visiting WPI finished its campaign with a record of 19-10.

In a NEWMAC women’s volleyball match on Tuesday night, host MIT defeated Babson College 25-18, 25-19, 25-13. With the win, the Engineers improved to 17-5 on the year and 3-2 in conference while the Babson Beavers dipped to 11-7 overall and 2-3 in the NEWMAC.

The MIT women’s volleyball team opened its season by winning all four matches en route to a first place finish at the Regis College Pride Invitational held this past weekend. Katie K. Spielbauer ’13 was named the Tournament MVP while Kelly E. Schulte ’12 earned All-Tournament team honors.
