The MIT men’s soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 10 following a 1-0 victory over Clark University in a NEWMAC contest on Saturday. Jonathan K. Tebes ’14 registered the lone goal of the contest in the 74th minute for the Engineers, who are currently ranked No. 7 in the latest NCAA New England Regional poll.

In a hard-fought NEWMAC women’s volleyball match on Tuesday night, visiting Springfield College emerged with a 23-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-19 victory over MIT. The loss lowered the Engineers’ record to 10-7 on the year and 2-2 in conference play while the Pride improved to 14-2 overall and 4-0 in the NEWMAC.

The MIT women’s volleyball team opened the 2009 campaign by winning the Gordon College Invitational for the eighth straight season. The Engineers swept Endicott College (25-17, 25-22, 25-14) and Keene State College (25-16, 25-23, 25-12) before topping the host Fighting Scots (25-10, 25-20, 24-26, 25-17) on Saturday. Katrina M. Ellison ‘10 was named the Tournament MVP while rookie Katie K. Spielbauer ’13 was tabbed for All-Tournament Team honors. Alex T. May ’10 posted 11 kills and six digs as Ellison and Cecily L. Joujon-Roche ’12 both registered eight kills and four digs against Endicott. Jennifer Li ’11 notched a team-high five blocks while Barden E. Cleeland ’10 totaled four blocks and three aces. Catherine Melnikow ’10 paced the defense with 11 digs to go along with three aces as Anna D. Dikina ’11 contributed six digs. Alyssa L. Rothman ’13 tallied 34 assists and four digs while Spielbauer chipped in six digs.

The MIT men’s volleyball team extended its winning streak to four courtesy of a 30-10, 30-12, 30-12 decision over Lesley University in a North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division match on Tuesday. The victory lifted the Engineers’ record to 9-9 on the year and 5-3 in conference play while the Lynx saw their record dip to 1-11 overall and 1-7 in the league.

In the first New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament meeting between MIT and Babson College, the No. 3-seeded Engineers emerged with a 25-17, 25-15, 23-25, 25-17 victory over the No. 6 Beavers in a quarterfinal match on Tuesday. MIT (21-15) will travel to Springfield College on Friday, Nov. 8 to square off with No. 2 Wellesley College in semifinal action. Babson concluded its season with an overall record of 16-11.

The MIT women’s volleyball team recorded a thrilling 25-15, 25-20, 23-25, 22-25, 15-11 victory over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match on Tuesday night. With the win, the Engineers improved to 11-8 on the year and 3-1 in conference play while the Bears dropped to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in NEWMAC.

For the seventh year in a row, the MIT women’s volleyball team kicked off its season by winning the Gordon College Invitational. The MIT men’s soccer team secured a 4-1 victory over the host Endicott College Gulls on Tuesday night thanks to a trio of second-half goals. Zachary E. Kabelac ’12 paced the Engineers’ balanced attack with two assists while four different players found the back of the net to score. Thomas S. Caldwell ’09 collected three saves in goal.

MIT earned its first win of the campaign with a 1-0 decision over Simmons College. Edith R. Reshef ’11 provided the lone marker in Wednesday’s non-conference match as the Engineers rebounded from their 4-0 defeat by Brandeis University on Saturday.

Sonia Raman, who has served as an assistant coach at Wellesley College for the past six years, has been named head coach of MIT women’s basketball, as announced by Director of Athletics Julie Soriero.
