MIT’s Maryann M. Gong ’17 won the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship on Saturday and helped the Engineers to a fourth place overall finish. Gong finished with a time of 21:36.3, which was nearly nine seconds faster than the second place finisher.

The first-seeded MIT women’s soccer team saw its season come to a close in penalty kicks last Saturday afternoon against fourth-seeded Springfield College in the first of two New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) semifinals matches at Steinbrenner Stadium on the campus of MIT on Saturday afternoon.

Third-seeded Babson College defeated first-seeded MIT, ranked No. 17 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll and No. 3 in the NCAA New England Regional poll, 2-1, in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Soccer Championship in come-from-behind fashion on Sunday afternoon at Steinbrenner Stadium.

MIT women’s soccer players Alexandra R. Hrabchak ’19 and Lauren S. Ullmann ’17 were named as the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office early afternoon on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The MIT men’s soccer team, ranked No. 21 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, claimed its fifth New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season championship with a 3-2 victory over Springfield College at Brock-Affleck Field.

The MIT sailing team, ranked No. 18 in the latest Coed College World Sailing poll, registered a first, sixth and eighth place finish at the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Invitational, hosted by the Engineers, and finished fifth at the Captain Hurst Bowl, hosted by Dartmouth College over the weekend.

Alex Cauneac ’19 of the MIT men’s tennis team made it all the way to the final four, before bowing out to Bowdoin College freshman Luke Tercek, 6-0, 6-2, in the semifinals of the USTA/ITA New England Regional Tournament which was held at Williams College over the weekend.

The MIT sailing team opened its season competing in four different regattas over the weekend. Events began on Saturday with a fourth place finish in the Toni Deutsch Regatta, hosted by the Engineers. Other members of the squad finished sixth at both the Harry Anderson Trophy and the Pine Trophy, hosted by Yale University and the United States Coast Guard Academy, respectively. On Sunday, teams finished their respective races, which began the day before, while other Engineers sailed to a sixth and seventh place finish at the one-day FJ Invitational, hosted by Harvard University.

The MIT water polo team opened its season with a record of 2-1 at the 2015 Bruno Classic, hosted by Harvard University and Brown University over Labor Day weekend. The Engineers, ranked No. 19 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) preseason poll, fell to No. 4 Stanford University, 29-9, on Saturday, but bounced back on Sunday defeating Claremont-Mudd-Scripps by a score of 14-11 and Occidental College, 12-6.
