This past Friday, MIT Women’s tennis suffered a tough loss to Tufts 9-0. The tennis team was down to six players due to sickness and injuries, making for an interesting lineup. They came back to win on Saturday against Clark University.

This past Saturday, MIT Women’s Tennis competed in their first match of the season against Springfield College. While some team members were injured, the team still had a strong showing.

This past weekend the MIT women’s tennis team played Bowdoin College and Trinity College, losing to both in tough matches.

MIT Women’s Tennis defeated Colby this past Saturday, winning 9-0. The warm day allowed the players to compete outside, which also allowed the many fans to see the action better. Among the fans was Kat Pick, a former assistant coach who came out to support the team. With the support of the fans, the team headed out to play doubles.

This past Saturday, the MIT women’s tennis team defeated Bates College 7-2 in their opening match of the Spring Season. Adding to the excitement was the fact that this was the first match attended by Caroline Hamilton — the adopted teammate from Friends of Jacyln, which matches children with brain tumors with college and high school athletic teams. The team’s confidence after the first match, Caroline, and fan support gave them a good start.

The MIT women’s tennis team finished off their season strong at the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) and the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship over the past two weekends.

Last week, the MIT women’s tennis defeated Wheaton College 6-3. Both teams had only one loss this season so a close match was expected.

On Saturday, the MIT women’s tennis team defeated Smith College 8-1. After a few inconvenient delays, MIT arrived at Smith ready to play. First on court were the doubles matches, beginning with Leslie A. Hansen ’10 and Anastasia Vishnevetsky ’12, who quickly defeated their opponents 8-0. Following closely on their heels was the team of seniors Karina N. Pikhart ’09 and Yi Wang ’09, who finished their opponents off with another decisive 8-0 score.

Wellesley College defeated the MIT women’s tennis team 6-3 in their match last Tuesday. The match started with doubles play as usual. The team of Leslie A. Hansen ’10 and Anastasia Vishnevetsky ’12 finished first, destroying their opponents 8-1. Next off was the team of Anisa K. McCree ’10 and Melissa A. Diskin ’11, who lost their tough match 8-1.

The MIT women’s tennis team received their first loss of the season this past Thursday to nationally ranked Tufts University, 7-2.
