MIT scored first and took a two-run lead in the top of the third inning, before ultimately falling to 2013 NCAA Division III champion Tufts University at its final game of the 2014 season by a score of 4-3. Tech wrapped up the season with a record of 10-21, while the Jumbos improved to 33-3.

MIT’s men’s lightweight crew team traveled to California for the San Diego Crew Classic, which will take place from Friday, April 5 through Saturday, April 6. Tech entered just one boat in the event, a Varsity 8, that fared well on the first day of competition.

After consecutive rainy days and canceled games, the MIT softball team finally opened New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday, facing Smith College in a double header on the road. Tech lost the first game 3-2 in eight innings after going to a tie breaker, but held on to an early lead in the second game to take a 6-4 victory over the Pioneers. The Engineers are now 4-8 and 1-1 in NEWMAC play, while Smith is 8-3 and 2-2 in league action.

On Saturday, February 22, the second and final day of the New England Division III Championships, the No. 4 MIT men’s track and field team won the title for the second year in a row, wrapping up the weekend in first out of 26 teams with 121 points. No. 7 Tufts University finished in second with 74 points and Williams College was third with 58.

Already in its fourth week, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll released on Wednesday afternoon revealed that both the MIT men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams have moved up in the rankings. Tech’s men, who were ninth last week, are now fourth, while the women’s squad moved up from third to second.

Michael J. Liao ’14 was named the NEWMAC Swimmer of the Week and was part of the 200-yard medley relay, along with Bradley A. Mattix ’16 and Sean R. Corcoran ’16, and Austin D. Fathman ’15, that received Relay of the Week accolades on Monday. This is the fourth time this season, dating back to Nov. 25, that the Engineers have earned both Swimmer and Relay of the Week during the same week.

After having last raced over a month ago, the MIT men’s indoor track and field team continued its 2013-14 at the Bates Invitational on Saturday afternoon, finishing first with 194 points. Host Bates College was second with 100 and Colby College came in third with 67 points.

Racing for the first time in over a month, the MIT women’s swimming and diving team defeated New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival U.S. Coast Guard Academy at home on Saturday afternoon by a score of 195-83. Throughout the day, the Engineers were able to swim events not normally raced at dual meets and claimed first place in 13 of the 16 events.

At the final home match of the weekend, the MIT squash team were defeated by Colby College by a score of 7-2, with the lone wins coming from Nikhil N. Punwaney ’17 at No. 1 and Tyler M. Finkelstein ’17 at No. 2. After falling to Wesleyan and Bowdoin yesterday, the Engineers now have a record of 4-4 on the season following an undefeated start to their season.

Following a strong weekend of competition, the MIT men’s swimming and diving team received two conference weekly honors, as announced by the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) on the afternoon of Monday, Nov. 25. The 200-yard medley relay that was made up of Bradley A. Mattix ’16, Michael J. Liao ’14, Sean R. Corcoran ’16, and Austin D. Fathman ’15 was named Relay of the Week, while Liao also received Swimmer of the Week honors for his individual swims.
