The Tech lacks MIT specific coverage

On March 16th, the MIT Wind Ensemble (MITWE) performed a concert in Kresge Auditorium, featuring the world premier of “Awakening” by Jamshied Sharifi. The next night, the MIT Symphony Orchestra (MITSO) performed another concert on the same stage. Yet the only coverage in The Tech of these events was a single captioned photo of a single musician from each concert.

In comparison, the April 3 edition of The Tech features a full page article about a concert that took place in San Francisco and had nothing to do with MIT. The Tech, especially the arts department, should be ashamed of this disparity.

MITSO and MITWE will be performing again in May (the 4th and the 11th, respectively), with the MITSO concert featuring Yimin Chen ’13 performing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto no. 1. I hope that the MIT community will show its support of these two ensembles (and soloist) by attending these concerts en masse, and I hope for The Tech’s credibility as a source of MIT-related news that this letter will not be the only coverage of these events.
