After a hot Fourth of July that allowed hundreds of thousands of spectators to watch fireworks along the Charles River without fear of rain or cold, it looks as though summer has arrived in full force in Boston. Even with a cold front passing through the region on Wednesday night, daytime temperatures should not drop below the 70s.

Around the rest of the country, the South is experiencing a severe drought, while many northern states must deal with the opposite problem of overabundance of moisture. An oil leak from a broken pipeline in the Yellowstone River in Montana may have reached as far as North Dakota just 4 days after it was detected. The problem has been exacerbated because the river is currently flowing at flood stage.
