MIT Regains Top 5 Ranking in Latest US News Report

Engineers Tie for 4th with Caltech, Stanford

MIT has achieved a 4th place ranking among all national universities in the US News and World Report rankings, tying with Caltech and Stanford University.

Princeton University held onto the top spot for the seventh year in a row while Harvard, which tied for first with Princeton for the last three years, slipped to second place. Yale University maintained its third place ranking.

MIT 's ranking gradually slipped from 4th place in 2004 to 7th place in 2006. In spite of this fact, US News awarded MIT the top ranking among US graduate schools with engineering programs in its 2006 rankings. Moreover, The Washington Monthly College Guide gave MIT the top spot among all US universities both last year and this year.
